Research

During my time with the University of Virginia, the University of Chicago's Consortium on Chicago School Research, and the Michael Cohen Group, I have conducted research on many topics: school district policies, early childhood literacy acquisition, the training of school leaders, student perception of school climate, the mentoring of novice teachers, and teacher evaluation.




The primary focus of my research has been the nexus of school leadership and school improvement, specifically school turnaround. From 2004-2008, I was a member of a team that researched "turnaround principals" who were trained through the the University of Virginia’s Partnership for Leaders in Education, a collaboration between the Darden School of Business and the Curry School of Education. Our team investigated a host of issues related to improvement efforts in designated "turnaround schools," as well as other under-performing schools.
